Fire dept. installs 130 smoke detectors thanks to grant

The $55,000 grant will help crews check people's homes to see if they need smoke detectors in case their home should have a fire

WEAU

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Despite the unseasonable warm temperatures we've seen recently, many people are beginning to heat their homes, increasing the likelihood of a fire, which is why firefighters in Eau Claire went around the community, installing smoke alarms for homeowners.

"We're starting out a program where we partnered with the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin also known as PFFW, to go out and check people's homes to see if they need smoke detectors and then install those smoke detectors for them so that they have an early alerting system in their home should they have a fire," says Eau Claire Fire Department Deputy Chief Allyn Bertrang.

Bertrang says the program is possible thanks to a $55,000 grant from the PFFW to ensure safety while educating the public.
