DEVENS, Mass. — The Devens Fire Department is the latest local department to receive a Department of Homeland Security grant to purchase safety equipment.

The $200,134 grant, funded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will allow the department to purchase 21 state-of-the-art breathing-apparatus kits, as well as protective clothing for all Devens firefighters.

"This grant is going to help our department tremendously," Chief Joe LeBlanc said. "The equipment we purchase with this grant will help us protect our men and our community for the next 10 years. It's hard for our community to obtain this kind of funding locally."
