New Jersey American Water awards grants to 21 volunteer emergency services groups

Grants totaling nearly $20,000 given to volunteer fire departments, ambulance squads, first responder units

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey American Water, in recognizing the bravery and heroism of our community emergency services volunteers, has announced the awarding of 21 grants totaling nearly $20,000 to volunteer fire departments, ambulance squads and volunteer first responder units located in the company's service areas.

In a release, the Company said that the selection of the 21 organizations from more than a hundred applications was made by a team of company employees, who are all active volunteer firefighters or emergency medical technicians. This year's grants will help these important organizations cover the costs associated with purchasing a wide variety of equipment. The list of selected organizations and their proposed purchases follows:

-Lumberton Fire Co. No. 1 (Lumberton) for upgrading communications equipment

-Vincentown Emergency First Aid Squad (Southampton) for a new CPR training mannequin

-Cinnaminson Fire Department (Cinnaminson) for a rope rescue system tripod

-Good Will Fire Co. No. 1 (Pemberton) for new alerting pagers

-Borough of Palmyra Fire Dept. (Palmyra) for purchase of new radios

-Clark Fire Dept. (Clark) for LED hand lights and chargers

-Garwood First Aid Squad (Garwood) for a new CPR training mannequin

-Scullville Vol. Fire Co. (Egg Harbor Township) for boots, helmets and gloves for the Hovercraft Water Rescue Team

-Strathmere Vol. Fire Co. (Strathmere) for a cold water rescue suit

-Carneys Point Fire & Rescue (Carneys Point) for firefighter boots

-Office of the Fire Coordinator, Essex County Emergency Management (North Caldwell) for incident management vests

-Jamesburg Vol. Fire Dept. (Jamesburg) for outfitting a brush truck

-Oxford Emergency Squad (Oxford) for automated external defibrillator replacement pads

-Chatham Township Vol. Fire Dept. (Chatham) for new LED hand lights

-Brookside Engine Co. No. 1 (Brookside) for a resupply of Class A foam

-Borough of Laurel Springs Fire Dept. (Laurel Springs) for firefighting hose nozzles

-Hi-Nella Fire Co. No. 1 (Hi-Nella) for an inflatable rescue boat

-Little Sliver Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 (Little Silver) for fire apparatus ID tagging system

-Shrewsbury Hose Co. No. 1 (Shrewsbury) for firefighting hose adapters

-Manville Fire Department (Manville) for rescue gloves and Nomex hoods

-Bradley Gardens First Aid and Rescue Squad (Bridgewater) for carbon monoxide detectors

"These organizations play critical roles in our communities," said Peter A. Eschbach, director of Communications & External Affairs. "Our employees did a great job of deliberating and deciding among the more than a hundred requests we received for financial assistance. They used their years of practical experience as firefighters and EMTs to ensure that our grants will have the most impact.

"We hope that through this program, we can provide meaningful financial assistance to these volunteer organizations that are critical to our communities. While we provide the water to fight fires, it's these brave men and women volunteering their time and skills that keep our homes and businesses safe."
